Dr. Wakil saved my life!! After struggling with depression, anxiety and ADHD all my life, she was the ONLY psychiatrist I’ve ever seen to actually spend the time to understand me. She was willing to have a dialogue with me and actually explain her thought process and reasoning, rather than just write a script and send me on my way. Dr Wakil has been instrumental in helping my brother go from deep depression, OCD limiting his life and overall poor life outlook to working a full time job, and managing his own Dr appointments, medications and finding an OCD treatment that meets his individual and complex needs. Dr Wakil was the first healthcare provider in years to identify and push for proper mental health care to get my brother on the road to health after 30+yrs of living under disabling depression, OCD, and blood sugar irregularity. To say Dr Wakil was a God send is an understatement!! I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Wakil for your psychiatric needs, or as part of your healthcare team.

Dr. Sonya Wakil was recommended to me after a traumatic event in my life. Because the issue also concerned my male spouse, she agreed to see us together. And her agreement was fortuitous for both of us. She is patient and speaks to each of us with warm understanding and true concern. Not only has she been able to ameliorate the stress I have been having with my trauma, but has also, because of her medical degree, was able to help my husband with his diabetic issues, which has helped me reduce much of the worry I had been having with the fear that I might loose him to diabetes. My life is moving forward in a much more positive way.

Quality psychiatric care is an investment in one’s quality of life. It’s been my experience that a one hour sit down with Dr. Wakil is an investment yielding immediate return. I came to her in January looking to be assessed for what I now understand were challenges related to undiagnosed autism, ADHD, and PTSD. Challenges I’ve dealt with my entire life having zero context as to what or why. If we do not understand the problem, how then can we properly address it? After nearly thirty years of dealing with cognitive predispositions that I could not understand nor properly communicate, Dr. Wakil’s exhaustive breadth of professional experience and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment has enabled me to more thoroughly understand and properly address the challenges I face in lieu of my conditions. Communication at every stage of care thus far (from application to diagnosis and treatment) has been collaborative and concise. I’ve personally come to recognize this as Dr. Wakil’s “distinguishing quality of care”. What’s set her apart from my previous providers is she listens; with a seemingly empathic capacity to contextualize my concerns in a way that fosters an accessible understanding of my reality. The metric for which I am grateful for her and her services is truly beyond words. I don’t have to be so puzzled about my experience as someone differently abled. I can finally start my life now.
